Anant Pradhan and Larry McDonald return to Names You Can Trust with a follow-up to their 2022 debut’s Jamaican golden-era arrangements of cinema soundtrack staples. Drawing on Henry Mancini’s rare-groove blueprint for the 1973 film The Thief Who Came To Dinner, the duo reconfigure the theme into a funky “flyers” style.
The recordings feature players from New York’s reggae community, including members of The Frightnrs and The Far East, alongside contributions from Victor Axelrod. B-side “Earl” grew from improvised studio sessions and pays tribute to the late Jamaican pianist Earl Appleton, with Pradhan moving from saxophone to piano.
