In 1960 Chubby released his version of The Twist. "I knew it was a Hank Ballard song," Chubby later explained. "I’d seen him perform it. But he didn’t do The Twist. There were kids in the ghetto doing this Twist thing and a little slipped on to Bandstand." By September 1960, it was the biggest record in America. In 2013 Billboard named his version of The Twist as the biggest chart record of all-time, "It’s a great honour, I’m humble for all I’ve achieved in the music industry," Chubby claimed. "I’m so proud that The Twist has endured and even more thankful for how long my career has endured."
