The Virgins album from 2008 is a 10 track serving of party tunes written about the New York city life and everything in between. Singer Donald Cumming's Elvis Costello-lite vocals slide easily from arch ('rich girls') to tender ('love is colder than death'), while the band backs him like the Strokes on a funk bender, all big choruses and tightrope bass lines. The Virgins is punchy and slinky and over before you know it, but good, dirty fun while it lasts.
