The Fat Lady Sings' debut album Twist stands out as a deeply felt, emotionally charged slice of early-'90s Irish alternative rock, driven by Nick Kelly's distinctive song writing and the band's blend of pop-rock, indie, and dream-tinged textures.

The Fat Lady Sings emerged in Dublin in 1986 before relocating to London, where they built a strong live following and released several independent singles. Fronted by singer- songwriter Nick Kelly , the band gained notable attention in Ireland, scoring multiple Top 20 singles in 1990-91. Their line up for the debut album featured Kelly, Tim Bradshaw, Dermot Lynch, and Robert Hamilton.

Released in May 1991 on East West Records, Twist marked the band's first major-label album and showcased their ability to merge alternative rock , pop-rock , and jangly, emotionally resonant song writing . The album followed the major- label single Man Scared and produced three additional singles: Arclight, Twist, and Deborah.

The album credits highlight the band's hands-on creative approach, with production contributions from both the band and producers Mike Roarty and Paul Hardiman.
