Visual Impact includes the ace Nuplex by Brian Bennett, a sweeping, punchy funk piece. John Scott’s LP opener Canaveral Scape is beautifully paced, string-drenched and horn-fed. Other highlights on the A-side include Bennett’s bass-heavy jazz groover Sequence Of Events and the building, undercover funk of Steve Gray’s Low Profile.
The B-side is fantastic: Jim Lawless’s percussive, vibey exotica Keeping Pace, five weighty funk breaks from Johnny Pearson, and John Scott’s Flight Of The Phoenix, sampled by M.O.P. for We Run New York. Originally released in 1976, Visual Impact remains wonderfully timeless.
