The fourth album from the legendary Leeds-based indie institution The Wedding Present is now available. This 30th anniversary edition includes the original album along with a second LP of contemporary non-album tracks and alternative versions. Each LP is pressed onto high quality 180g colored vinyl (Green Vinyl / Orange Vinyl) and presented in a gatefold sleeve. Additionally, a CD containing all 23 tracks from across the 2LPs is included.
Originally released on Island Records in September 1994, this album was the first the group had made for the label and has long been a fan favorite. The Wedding Present are considered by many to be the epitome of indie music. Formed in 1985, the group gained prominence as part of the C86 scene, known for their fast-paced jangle-pop sound and intelligent lyrics by founder and only constant member, David Gedge.
Recorded in Seattle with producer/engineer Steve Fisk, known for his work with Sub-Pop label, the album Watusi is razor sharp and slyly commercial. The singles "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah" and "It's A Gas" showcase the band's signature sound. Tracks like "Big Rat" and "Gazebo" add depth to the album, with John Peel praising Gedge for writing some of the best love songs of the rock'n'roll era.
Watusi offers an eclectic array of material, thoughtfully arranged and consistently strong. From the ghostly heartache waltz of "Spangle" to the groovy "Let Him Have It" and the Velvet Underground vibe of "Catwoman", each track brings something unique to the album. "Click Click" stands out as a captivating duet of sexual compulsion, making this album a must-have for fans of The Wedding Present.
