The Rods from Upstate New York were a force to be reckoned with in the early 80’s U.K. New Wave Of British Heavy Metal scene. Part Motörhead, part Iron Maiden, and part Ted Nugent, they were among the best metal bands of the era.
The band, consisting of David ‘Rock’ Feinstein (guitar/vocals), Garry Bordonaro (bass/vocals), and Carl Canedy (drums/vocals), broke free from the U.S. East Coast disco scene with their first self-financed album, Rock Hard, in 1980. They later signed with major label Arista and released their self-titled album in September 1981, which catapulted their popularity.
During the European leg of Iron Maiden’s Number Of The Beast tour, The Rods managed to squeeze in recording sessions for their follow-up album, Wild Dogs, at Parkgate Studios in Hastings in February of ’82. Packed with prime Metal morsels and some of the meatiest riffs of the era, Wild Dogs is still revered as one of the best albums from the NWOBHM era, setting standards that still hold up today.
