Writing The Thread

San Francisco songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kelley Stoltz returns with Writing the Thread, his 21st album and second full-length release of 2026.

For more than two decades, Stoltz has built one of indie music’s most distinctive and prolific catalogues, moving between psychedelic pop, post-punk, garage rock, glam, folk and classic songwriting. Raised in Michigan and based in San Francisco since the late 1990s, he first drew attention with 2001’s Antique Glow.

Coming just months after May’s If You Don't Know Me, Buy Now, Writing the Thread finds the melodic immediacy of Stoltz’s earliest recordings meeting the sharper edges, strange textures and restless experimentation that have increasingly coloured his work. Stoltz has also played with Echo and the Bunnymen and Robyn Hitchcock, and hosts Vinelands on KEXP.
