Yaphet

Yaphet is the new album from rapper Curly Castro, also known as one half of the dynamic duo Shrapknel, on Backwoodz Studioz. Drawing from 1970s Blaxploitation cinema, Castro turns its heroes and antiheroes into a vivid backdrop for sharp, cinematic lyricism.

Flows shift as smoothly as camera angles, while the verses land packed with references and layered meaning. It is also Castro's first solo album since 2021's Little Robert Hutton, and that lived experience gives these songs real weight beneath all the technical brilliance.

Produced entirely by Milwaukee beat maker Locust, Yaphet is bouncy, eclectic and forward-facing. Guests include billy woods, PremRock, Fatboi Sharif, Brian Ennals, SKECH185, Blueprint, AJ Suede, shemar, ALASKA, Sunmundi, blackchai and Margel the Sophant.
