8-Ball Almanac is a collectively told oral history of 8-Ball Community, a NYC-born organisation nurturing a community of art through free, accessible platforms of expression. It acts as both a retrospective of the decade since the group’s accidental conception in a Brooklyn pool hall in 2012 and a guidebook for those wishing to cultivate a similar community.
The first half contains most of the text, beginning with an introduction by 8-Ball’s founder and longest active member, Lele Saveri, and a conversation with fellow founding members Josh and Giuseppe. It covers each space 8-Ball inhabited in New York and describes its teams.
The second half is a visual counterpart, collecting photos, scans and documents from ten years. Told through the perspectives of more than 100 people, it reflects on what worked, what didn’t, and how the collective both stumbled and succeeded.
