Title

james carr is, inarguably, deep soul music's greatest cult hero, celebrated for a series of stellar recordings that he cut for goldwax records during the second half of the 1960s (all of which are available on various cds on ace's kent subsidiary). plagued by personal demons throughout his life, when james walked away from his career in the mid-70s, few of his fans expected him to ever record again. however, with the help of his original producer and lifelong friend quinton claunch, james was able to record and release two albums during the 1990s which affirmed that, despite everything, he was still a force to be reckoned with. 'a man worth knowing' compiles these two albums and adds a bonus of an update of his 1966 goldwax essential 'pouring water on a drowning man' - one of the last recordings james made prior to his untimely death in 2001. it has never been issued in the uk before. as anyone who saw him during his occasional live shows of the 90s will testify, james was a great vocalist at every stage of his career. although the instrumentation here marks these recordings down as being a product of the 90s, the vocals and songs are very much vintage james carr. those who have the original goldwax sides will be mighty pleased with what they hear here.
