Samuel Gene Maghett, known as Magic Sam, was an American Chicago blues musician. He was born in Grenada County, Mississippi, and learned to play the blues from listening to records by Muddy Waters and Little Walter.
Credited as the King of Chicago's West Side Blues, Magic Sam was a brilliant guitarist and a soaring and energetic singer. Dead from heart failure at the untimely age of 32 in 1969, he was a pivotal figure whose memorable originals such as 'All Your Love', expanded the parameters of the electric blues with fresh melodic lines and rich, modern sounding chord voicings. This collection, made up from sides recorded for labels Cobra, Chief and Crash (1957 to 1966), gives ample proof of how Magic Sam earned his reputation.
