Did you know that Parquet Courts released their first album, American Specialties in 2011? Well neither did most of the world! But back before the universal acclaim of Light Up Gold existed a very different band. The New York City band’s debut chronicles their early days in the Brooklyn DIY scene, much of the material on the record having begun as improvised jams at places like Death By Audio, Shea Stadium and Silent Barn. Recorded on 4-track tape in various rehearsal spaces, American Specialties documents a young band finding its feet as songwriters and musicians. This reissue has been remastered by Total Control’s Mikey Young and contains a zine designed by the band’s Andrew Savage with expanded liner notes written by bassist Sean Yeaton.
