odd future's mellowhype (left brain and hodgy beats) finally release their second album entitled 'blackenedwhite'. fully produced by left brain, hodgy beats takes on a darker note this time around. featuring appearances by mike g, tyler creator, domo genesis, and frank ocean, this album is packed with gun sounds, grams of coke and dead cops. the perfect soundtrack for mobbing on a dark halloween night. parts of the album point toward what might happen when the odd future kids leave their terrifying self-created universe and engage with the world at large - something that's almost inevitable now that major labels are knocking down their doors. "hell" has a beat that's made partially out of someone muttering "what the hell" on a loop, but it also has an honest-to-god r&b chorus. but even as it nods toward accessibility, 'blackenedwhite' works as yet another fascinating, bizarre, expectation-defying piece of work from a group of young artists who don't make anything else.
