On September 15, 1957, John Coltrane stepped into Rudy Van Gelder’s living room studio in Hackensack, New Jersey to record Blue Train, his first great masterpiece. It remains the legendary saxophonist’s only album as a leader for Blue Note, and one of the label’s defining sessions.

A 5-track set driven by the bluesy title cut, Blue Train brings together a sharp 6-piece band: Lee Morgan on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Kenny Drew on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. A classic session with serious forward motion.
