Released in 1964, this first album by the Pedrinho Mattar trio is a beautifully poised meeting point between Bossa Nova and Jazz. Pedrinho Mattar was a key Brazilian pianist in that exchange between Brazil and the United States, with the sound carrying strongly into Europe too.
The trio is completed by Ayres De Arruda on guitar and Antonio Pinheiro on drums, a lean, elegant line-up that gives plenty of room for Pedrinho's piano to shine. The result is sharp, fluid and deeply musical throughout.
The album features impeccable instrumental versions of songs by Sergio Mendes, Baden Powell, Chico Buarque, A.C. Jobim, Aloysio De Oliveira and others. A lovely slice of Latin Jazz, full of style, touch and easy sophistication.
