masaki batoh - member of famed japanese psych-rock band ghost - wants you to hear exactly what's been rattling around in his brain. you will have the chance via his new solo lp, 'brain pulse music', on drag city. batoh created a large chunk of the record utilizing an apparatus that transforms the human brain's activity (and its reaction to stimuli) into sound called the brain pulse music machine. batoh fleshed out the sound of this mind meld with some traditional japanese instrumentation and created the seven songs that comprise 'brain pulse music'. batoh started working on the project prior to the disastrous tsunami that ravaged japan last march. after that calamity, he refocused to create music to 'reconcile the spirit and the body.'
