This is the poet laureate of anguish, self-sabotage and misery’s best example of his talent. The only thing harder than Lanegan’s early life is the gravelly voice he uses to deliver his stories about it. At its worst moments, Bubblegum is a catchy album made for driving american highways, at its best it is one of the most emotionally transportive albums I’ve ever heard.
