Buddy Miller

Buddy Miller cleared out the kitchen for a drum kit and ended up making his first solo album in fifteen years: twelve songs shaped by soul, country, early rock 'n' roll and gospel, recorded with friends and collaborators spanning five decades of American music.

It opens with As Long as I Have You, the early Temptations hit, anchored by the McCrary Sisters. Five songs come from Julie Miller, including You Never Really Get Over It, Losers' Celebration and Masterpiece in the Sand, alongside Dan Penn's Not Enough Time to Change and Jesse Winchester's Lay Down the Burden of Your Heart.

Guests include Shawn Colvin, Jim Lauderdale, Dan Penn, The War & Treaty, Lee Ann Womack, Emmylou Harris, Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams. The core band: Fred Eltringham, Viktor Krauss, Tim Lauer, Steve Fishell and Fats Kaplin. It closes on Julie Miller's line: "The greatest works of man are just a masterpiece in the sand."
