Butcher Brown, a five-piece alt-jazz band, has recently recorded a direct-to-disc album at Gearbox Studios. This comes in addition to individual members pursuing other projects, such as keys player/producer DJ Harrison releasing an album on Stones Throw and drummer Corey Fonville touring with Christian Scott.
The album was recorded at Mark Ronson’s Zelig Studios and was cut live to disc using Gearbox’s legendary all-analogue signal chain. The music can be described as modern, hip-hop inflected funk with influences from Weather Report, Earth Wind and Fire, and a touch of Zappa.
