Two decades into their journey, Gnod still sound driven by instinct, conviction and the sheer force of the riff. This second part of their anniversary trilogy leans into the transcendental heaviness and repetition that have long powered the band’s approach.
Like the first volume, Chronicles Of Gnowt (Vol 2) was recorded during the same six-day session at Hellfire Studios near Dublin with producer Spud Murphy, known for work with Lankum and Black Midi. It captures a formidable band playing together in the room, all raw impact and chemistry.
The results are some of Gnod’s most fearsome and kinetic recordings yet. As Chris Haslam puts it, spontaneity and a no-thought approach often beat over-analysis. Maximal and minimal, claustrophobic and expansive, Chronicles Of Gnowt (Vol 2) is a fierce reminder of their contradictions.
