Soul II Soul started out as a London sound system and became a musical collective in 1988. They released their debut single, ‘Fairplay’, in the same year, which paved the way for chart success in both the UK and the US.
Gaining popularity in UK clubs, their singles ‘Fairplay’ and ‘Feel Free’ were part of the soundtrack for the “Second Summer of Love”. Their third single, ‘Keep on Movin’’, became a hit and got people dancing all over the country, propelling Soul II Soul into the Top 5.
Following ‘Keep on Movin’’, they released ‘Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)’, which topped the UK charts and reached the Top 5 in the US. Their album, Club Classics Vol. One, became a chart-topper in the UK and reached the Top 20 in the US under the name Keep on Movin’.
With their success, Soul II Soul set the pace for British soul music and inspired many homegrown acts. To celebrate its 35th anniversary, the album is now available on vinyl in a picture-disc edition featuring the group’s signature Funki Dredd logo.
