His breakthrough came on December 12, 1960, when a performance of his song Je m’voyais déjà at the Alhambra in Paris earned him a standing ovation, marking the start of his rise to fame. In the 1960s, his hits, including “For Me formidable”, “Et pourtant”, “La Bohème”, and “Emmenez-Moi”, solidified his status as a superstar.
