On Dead Deities, Satanic Planet come into their own with an aggressive, pitch-black call-to-arms against autocracy in the age of Christian nationalism. Lucien Greaves, Luke Henshaw, Dave Lombardo and Justin Pearson are now a fully together-in-the-studio band, with Greaves saying the album is more personal and closer aligned to the goals of The Satanic Temple.
Dead Deities opens with a brooding, doomy soundscape before launching into “Antichrist”, moving from a screamy post-hardcore intro into a slow, nasty, heavy vision of pop music in Hell. Across 11 tracks, the album moves through modern dark music with tolling bells, blackened synths, diabolical noise interludes and group vocals.
The first single, “Sam Alito’s Mom”, references the Supreme Court Justice tied to overturning Roe v. Wade. In an age of regression and theocracy, this is protest music with bite and bark in equal measure.
