Diary 001

Clairo (Claire Cottrill) considers diary.001 (from 2018) to be "a good representation of the last three or four years of me making music and kind of being confused about where I want to land." Following the breakout success of "Pretty Girl," Cottrill felt the need to prove herself in the realm of music: "I really didn't want 'Pretty Girl' to be the last thing anyone heard from me. I knew that I could do more."

The songs, though different, represent distinct times in her life as if written in a diary. The EP was written and produced during Cottrill's freshman year at Syracuse University.
