Tudor Acid returns with a new album which further develops his signature melodic ambient techno sound in new mysterious organic directions. The track "Encounters with disaster trolls" is inspired by Marianna Spring's book "Among the trolls". Of the album, he says: 'This album was so exciting but also really scary to make! I massively enjoyed the adrenaline kick though. What made it so thrilling (scary!) was trying two new things - LIVE KEYBOARD PLAYING and being HONEST in how I present my music and its meanings.Shortly after Air from a sand galaxy in may 2023, I got into playing live instruments. A couple of gigs with the wind synth (including at hidden notes in Stroud) and I realised that what I was most passionate about was playing LIVE KEYBOARDS! Amazingly everything I realised over recent years has all been based on step time or quantisation. If your not techy that just means that all the notes and beats fit a grid.I made most of this album with the Roland keyboards (ones that emulate the old classics) that I used on the last three releases. The clincher here was that I wasn't using lots of effects and distortion. So I really got into live keyboard playing and doing (most) of the tracks as a live performance which I recorded to two track stereo. As I got more and more comfortable with playing the keyboard parts live (and transcribing them to sheet music!) I was also able to manipulate the sounds and arrangements live. I was literally "playing" the whole thing. I think, if we are honest, I was also keen to make music that would appeal to and communicate with friends of mine who aren't so knowledgable of the nuances of experimental electronica. It was also really exciting doing some gigs with ambient cafe in Bristol which helped develop my style and then at cafe kino alongside Joe mugs and Noah Radley. I really felt I was connecting with my love of the music I first heard in 1994. But stylistic choices are one thing- what do you do with them?Well, this is something I have touched on before, my 2022 album "Empathy for cyborgs" explored some fairly raw "but am I human" emotions. And with this one I found myself touching on similar challenging emotions, but ahead of release I honestly can't say if these are things others are also experiencing. I did find that I needed to take the handbrake off - so the key example of this is the song "Encounters with disaster trolls" which was inspired by Marianna Spring's book "Among the trolls". I was really intrigued (horrified!) by the way that so many people go online to amateur sleuth upsetting events and in doing so make things worse for other people. There's also my take on classical music "etudes" on here and I'm already working on the follow up!'
