The Grammy winning folk duo return with the follow up to their self-titled debut collaboration. Echo in the Valley has 11 songs, the majority are original tunes and there are a few wildly reimagined traditional ones.
In the way that Abigail and Béla both have used the banjo as a bridge between cultures, this record bridges traditional Appalachian tunes with original songs that address relevant topics in today's world.
Like their self-titled debut which took the Grammy for Best Folk Album, this record also has wild limitations that create some magic: all sounds must be made by only the two of them; the only instruments used are banjos (they have seven between them); and they must be able to perform every recorded song live and Béla and Abby only play two banjos on every track.
