Grammy-winning composer Eric Whitacre returns with a major new electro-choral work for voices, strings, piano, and electronics. Inspired by William Blake’s Auguries of Innocence, Eternity in an Hour brings together immersive meditation, rich choral writing, and Whitacre’s long-held love of electronica and synthesisers.
Premiered at the BBC Proms in 2024 and conducted by Whitacre himself, this is a 60-minute piece shaped by Blake’s vision of infinity, awe, and stillness. It’s a striking meeting point between contemporary classical sound and electronic texture, open-hearted and quietly transportive.
As Eric Whitacre puts it: “My hope with Eternity in an Hour is that the music will help the listener (and the performers and, candidly, me) experience a little bit of that awe and timelessness.”
