Extrapolation

Extrapolation is the debut solo album by John McLaughlin, released in 1969. A pioneering jazz guitarist, McLaughlin recorded this album in London before gaining fame with Miles Davis and forming the Mahavishnu Orchestra. The album is a significant early example of British jazz fusion, blending modern jazz, post-bop, and avant-garde elements with McLaughlin's distinctive guitar style. It features John Surman on baritone and soprano saxophone, Brian Odgers on bass, and Tony Oxley on drums. The music is introspective, rhythmically complex, and forward-looking, showcasing McLaughlin's deep musicality and improvisational flair. Extrapolation laid the groundwork for McLaughlin’s later fusion innovations and remains a highly regarded piece in his discography.
