Nathan Henninger, a Canadian composer and conductor, has released his orchestral debut, Five Scenes For Orchestra. The cinematic, emotionally layered, and deeply personal work was recorded with a hand-picked ensemble of musicians from some of Berlin’s most prestigious orchestras.

The ensemble includes members from the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, and the Deutsche Oper. Henninger composed this five-part piece during a period of profound transition in his life.

After leaving his position at the United Nations in New York City, he moved to the Azores just before the pandemic, seeking reflection in nature and silence. The tension between vibrant urban life and the contemplative isolation of the Atlantic islands permeates Henninger’s musical language: at times eruptive and fragile, at others dense and dreamlike.

Recorded at the renowned Teldex Studio Berlin under the baton of the composer himself, Five Scenes For Orchestra offers listeners an expansive and immersive experience.
