this is the second album from el perro del mar. during the spring and summer of 2007 the much longed-for work on the second album 'from the valley to the stars' began. the recordings as well as the producing were done by el perro herself in her own studio in gothenburg. with the exception of a trip around india in the fall the intense work on the album lasted until december 2007. two years after the grand, spector-esque flourishes of the debut, 'from the valley to the stars' sees sarah strip away the layers to reveal a stately simplicity and an album with an underlying theme - a personal reflection on the idea of heaven. sarah has created an album with a flow and grace completely at odds to today's track-grabbing download culture. recorded at home by sarah with assistance from members of the gothenburg symphony orchestra the result is an album that like say, robert wyatt's 'rock bottom' or virginia astley's 'from gardens where we feel secure' creates its own universe and provides within its own aesthetic, a wonderment for the world. on memphis industries.
