Gateway Songs

Roger Knott’s Gateway Songs brings together material written over a remarkable span of time, with some songs dating back to his days with Lifeblud, the early-1970s Hemel Hempstead group whose self-described “poetry rock” grew out of folk, pastoral English imagery, and the more lyrical side of progressive rock. Decades later, those songs found their way to Nashville, where Knott worked with producer Thomm Jutz and a circle of seasoned musicians between 2005 and 2021. These are lived-in songs, shaped by time, distance, and the strange turns a musical life can take. Nashville gives them a fresh setting, while Knott’s voice and songwriting remain unmistakably at the centre.
