Jascha Heifetz remains one of the most influential violinists of the 20th century, and for María Dueñas he has been a guiding inspiration since childhood. On Homage to Heifetz, she traces that connection through a programme built around music closely linked to his legacy.
Recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios, the album brings together María Dueñas, Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. Dudamel is an important influence for Dueñas, not just as a phenomenal musician, but also as a wonderful human being.
The set includes Korngold’s Violin Concerto and Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole, plus miniatures by Debussy and Ponce that knowingly echo Heifetz’s tradition. It’s a thoughtful tribute that honours his legacy while leaving plenty of room for María Dueñas’s own artistic voice.
