Few bands in British music have matched the singular vision, longevity, and influence of The Fall. Decades on, their catalogue continues to expand in stature, standing as one of the most distinctive and uncompromising bodies of work in rock and roll.
Originally released in 2001 on Flitwick Records in a strictly limited run of just 500 copies, “I Wake Up In The City” quickly became a cult favourite among fans and collectors. Written, recorded, and produced in a council house in Mark E. Smith’s native Salford, the track captured The Fall at a crucial turning point—heralded by many as a powerful return to form and the beginning of another remarkable phase in the band’s evolution.
To mark its 25th anniversary, Cog Sinister Records is proud to present a special reissue of this seminal release. Available on both 7” and 12” vinyl, the package features previously unreleased versions that offer a fresh perspective on one of the band’s standout tracks.
Alongside unheard original versions of “I Wake Up In The City,” the release includes “Time For You To Go” on the B-side—an essential addition for fans and collectors alike. The 12” edition is further expanded with a newly created extended remix and a radio edit of the title track.
This reissue captures The Fall in their raw, unfiltered garage incarnation—urgent, direct, and unmistakably their own.
As John Peel once famously urged: “You must get them all.”
Long live The Fall. Turn it up.
