There’s no pretension about Ida Sand. The Swedish singer, pianist and songwriter has a warmth and authenticity that make every performance feel close-up and personal, whether she’s solo, at the piano, or sharing major stages with Nils Landgren or the SWR Big Band.

Twenty years on from her ACT debut Meet Me Around Midnight, Sand remains one of European soul-jazz’s most loved voices. On I Will Be Right There, that rich, slightly smoky sound sits at the centre of songs shaped by introspection, relationships, responsibility and communication.

Drawing on soul, rhythm and blues, folk and Americana, the album leans on groove, harmonic depth and subtle swing rather than extended solos. Recorded virtually live in one or two takes, it features Ola Gustafsson, Per Lindvall and Jesper Nordenström, plus versions of Massive Attack’s Teardrop and Jacques Brel’s Ne me quitte pas.
