Improvised Munitions is the unreleased first album by Unsane, originally scheduled to be released in 1989 by Circuit Records. Unfortunately, the album never saw the light of day as Circuit Records folded after the band approved the test pressings.

Despite this setback, Unsane managed to salvage a few tracks for singles and re-recorded some songs to include on their first full-length album for Matador. Years later, a rumor circulated that someone had a copy of the test pressing. Unsane were able to obtain and remaster it, including 4 tracks of the band's earliest material.

Chris Spencer, the band's guitarist, used to frequent clubs like CBGB's, ABC No Rio, and the Pyramid to try to secure shows before Unsane had even released a record. Spencer reflects, "For what it's worth, this is the very beginning of the band Unsane."

The album consists of 11 tracks, featuring the original 7 songs from the concept of Improvised Munitions and 4 songs from a cassette demo. Additionally, the original artwork for Improvised Munitions created by the original Unsane bassist Pete Shore and photographer Jens Jurgensen (also a member of Boss Hog) has been discovered, completing the fully original concept of the album.
