This Space Age Recordings, Ochre & Earworm compilation, completely epitomises some of the most interesting music that was beginning to emerge globally for a new generation of sound-consumers. The bands and artists involved (Sonic Boom, Spectrum, Experimental Audio Research, John Massoni, Peter Zinovieff, Skyray, Longstone, Synaptic Gridlock, Stylus, 121 Dials, The Land Of Nod, Magnetaphone, The Imajinary Friends, Octal) whilst all having their own unique vision, overlap like some kind of subsets of each other - hence their unity here. None of the artists included heard each other’s tracks until after the final compilation of the performance. Somehow however, the record unfolds and reveals, with the purity and continuity of the output of a single ingenious artist such is the cohesion of this collection. These similarly aligned yet unique sound makers INTERFACE here to produce a unique collection of moods and atmospheres, as beautiful yet demanding as sound itself. This was truly music for a new millennium, with an openness and optimism and unpretentiousness only possible when ego and dogma are rejected in the face of the seemingly forgotten possibilities of the powers and beauty of sound.
