Title

It Happened at the World's Fair is the sixth soundtrack album by Elvis Presley, released by RCA Victor in mono and stereo as LPM/LSP 2697 in April 1963. It serves as the soundtrack to the 1963 film of the same name starring Presley, and it reached number four on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart.

The recording sessions took place at Radio Recorders in Hollywood on August 30 and September 22, 1962. Originally scheduled for August 28 and 29, the dates were pushed back after Presley became ill, and only two songs were completed satisfactorily on the first night of August 30.

Ten songs were recorded for the soundtrack. Among the highlights are two written by one of Presley's favourite songwriters, Don Robertson, who also played keyboards during the sessions, along with one song by Otis Blackwell and Winfield Scott, the team behind the number two hit single Return to Sender the year before.

One Broken Heart for Sale and They Remind Me Too Much of You were released in advance as a single on January 29 to promote both the album and the film. One Broken Heart for Sale narrowly missed the top ten, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the b-side charted separately at number 53. The single became a gold record.

Trimmed down to just 1:35, with a verse removed, One Broken Heart for Sale also marked the first RCA single of Presley's career not to reach the top five, excluding Shake Rattle and Roll, which did not chart at all after its release on August 31, 1956, alongside Presley's debut album, split across six singles.
