Herbie Hancock is an American jazz musician, bandleader, and composer. He began his career with trumpeter Donald Byrd's group before joining the Miles Davis quintet. With Davis, Hancock helped redefine the role of a jazz rhythm section and was instrumental in shaping the post-bop sound.
In the 1970s, Hancock delved into jazz fusion, funk, and electro styles, incorporating a wide range of synthesizers and electronics into his music. He has been honored with an Academy Award and 14 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for his 2007 tribute to Joni Mitchell titled River: The Joni Letters. This album was only the second jazz album to win the award, following 'Getz/Gilberto' in 1965.
Since 2012, Hancock has been a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, teaching at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. The tracklist for this album includes:
Side A: "Maulana" / "Mr. Lucky (Rock Your Soul)" / "Kamili"
