Everybody played in everybody else’s band within the late-80s Edinburgh indie community – and the Fizzbombs were no exception, featuring members of Jesse Garon and the Desperadoes, the Shop Assistants and Secret Goldfish, amongst various others.
Much loved for their indie surf-punk sound, they managed only two ‘proper’ releases – until now, that is, when their BBC session for Janice Long is finally released as part of the ongoing series on Precious Recordings of London.
Alongside Fizzbombs originals like Beach Party and Blue Summer, the session features a Neil Diamond cover (then known as ‘The Neil Diamond One’, it’s actually Cherry, Cherry – either with or without a comma. We’re saying ‘with’) Plus a never-before-released song, It’s Not As Simple As That.
As you may have worked out, we love an Edinburgh band round these parts – which explains why we’ve already released the Desperadoes, the Motorcycle Boy, the Green Telescope, the Vultures and the Twinsets. So don’t miss the Fizzbombs!
Limited edition ten-inch vinyl with download codes, previously unseen images
and sleeve notes by Fizzbombs founders Margarita Vazquez Ponte and Angus McPake.
