Jo, La Donya I El Gripau

Following our reissues of Pau Riba, Munster returns with Jo, La Donya I El Gripau (1971), released just two years after the revered Dioptria. Widely seen as one of the earliest D.I.Y. albums in Spanish pop, it arrived when Riba was only 23.

Leaving an increasingly hostile Barcelona behind, Riba and his partner Mercè Pastor moved to Formentera, where they joined a growing hippie community and discovered LSD. Playing and singing under acid opened a new creative universe, and the original post-Dioptria plans were completely transformed.

Recorded in Formentera on battery-powered Revox and Nagra film sound recorders, the album captures the island’s atmosphere in full. The result is an extraordinary psychedelic folk record celebrating life with Mercè, the donya, and the birth of their son Pauet, the gripau, while also closing the Dioptria trilogy. Includes an insert with liner notes and photos.
