Katzengold stays close to its first spark. Some songs went from demo to final take in hours, not months. Acoustic guitar parts from those first recordings made the album, and a few scratch vocals stayed too, holding onto a spontaneity that couldn’t be recreated later.
The record began with lyrics by Kris Ragnstam, a songwriter active in independent music since the early 2000s. His work has ranged from a Japanese Billboard #1 to touring with Debbie Harry and Mumford & Sons. Here, that experience lands in songs that feel immediate and unfussy.
Recorded as a trio, Katzengold leans into real-time chemistry. Missed notes, uneven phrasing, and happy accidents were left in for character and tension. Tracked and mixed through an analog workflow, anchored by a very old working PC, it comes through warm, direct, and unvarnished.
