Material Witness

Material Witness is William Matheny’s third full-length since 2017, though it carries the confidence of someone with much deeper roots. The Morgantown, West Virginia multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter spent two decades playing with friends and family before stepping forward on his own.

Around a decade ago, Matheny realised his songwriting had truly found its voice. Since Strange Constellations in 2017 and 2023’s That Grand, Old Feeling, alongside a run of EPs and singles, he has become one of the Mountain State’s most vivid and dynamic musical voices.

Recorded in Nashville with Grammy-winning producer-engineer Justin Francis, Material Witness raises the stakes across ten original songs, often finding Matheny contemplating mortality and the passage of time.
