Brownswood Recordings release Mek Do and Mend, the debut album from self-taught producer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and artist Wonky Logic (Dwayne Kilvington), a respected collaborator across London’s jazz, electronic and contemporary music scenes with artists including Nala Sinephro, Yussef Dayes, Nightmares On Wax, Shabaka Hutchings and Emma-Jean Thackray.
Built from material spanning more than 15 years, it reflects Kilvington’s upbringing on a Leeds council estate, where music became both a creative outlet and a way of understanding the world. Voice notes from family, friends, teachers and collaborators run throughout, revealing the communities and experiences behind the music.
Recorded live in a single day in Studio One at RAK, the album moves between jazz arrangements, broken rhythms, piano, synth textures and brass. Highlights include Strange Attractor, written when Kilvington was 17, A Thousand Hands featuring Brother Portrait, and BAME (Beyond All Marginalised Expectations).
