Title

Niwel Tsumbu presents his virtuosic masterpiece for solo guitar with Milimo, set to be released on Dublin-based label Diatribe Records.

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, guitarist Niwel Tsumbu was raised on the rhythms of Congolese Soukous music and Rhumba. He studied theory and improvisation with Crispin Ngoyi in Kinshasa. Since moving to Ireland in 2004, he has become a highly sought-after performing artist and is currently touring worldwide with the Rhiannon Giddens band.

Milimo draws inspiration from Africa, Europe, and the Americas, creating a new African Classical tradition influenced by J.S. Bach, Paco de Lucia, Luambo Makiadi, and Charlie Parker. On tracks like "Gracias Paco," Tsumbu showcases his nod to flamenco guitarists with intricate nylon string guitar work.

Tsumbu is lauded for his unique, highly-virtuosic approach to the guitar, evident in the culmination of years of work on Milimo. Tracks like the three "Études" and "Rubato" demonstrate his classical credentials and innovative exploration of genres.

From the vocal track "Masta" to the spontaneous composition of "The Silence Within," Milimo showcases Niwel Tsumbu's diverse styles and techniques. The album closes with "To Be Continued," leaving listeners in anticipation of what's to come from this exceptional guitar talent.

Milimo is a rare recording of enduring beauty, highlighting Niwel Tsumbu's exploratory spirit and vast array of musical influences.
