On their latest album Music For Air, Berlin-based interdisciplinary duo Gamut Inc push the computer-controlled pipe organ into thrilling new territory. Composed and recorded during a two-week residency in Toulouse, these seven pieces move between harmony and noise with a real sense of momentum and release.
Made on the wind-dynamic organ "L'Explorateur", with individually computer-controlled wind pressure per pipe, the record explores fresh possibilities for the instrument, from hypervirtuoso excess to nuanced automation and rhythms beyond the fixed grid. The result is sensual, ecstatic, and full of overlapping, accelerating sound.
