For drummer and songwriter Brian Sachs, Mynd Reader isn’t just a band – it’s a spiritual return to the healing power of rock and roll. A fixture of New York City’s legendary early-’90s scene with his first band The Authority, Sachs helped fuel the city’s funk-rock underground, sharing stages with Phish, Blues Traveler, and Dave Matthews Band, grinding out 200+ shows a year, playing iconic venues like  Nightingales and holding down residencies at The Wetlands.  After the sudden passing of their manager and mentor Bill Graham, one of the most powerful men in rock promotion, the dream dimmed, and Sachs eventually relocated to Boulder, Colorado, where he built a business career while quietly nurturing his lifelong connection to music. 

In 2022, following a season of profound personal change, Sachs reunited with multi-instrumentalist Tonin. What began as a toast on the Fourth of July quickly sparked a creative fire and Mynd Reader was born – a fusion of soul, grit, and transcendence that channels classic rock’s raw spirit through a modern lens. Joined by powerhouse vocalist Shelby Kemp, the band crafts songs that live between darkness and light, rooted in timeless rock energy and emotional depth.

Their sound evokes The Black Crowes, My Morning Jacket, and Chris Stapleton – a cinematic blend of Heavy roots, blues, and modern Americana designed to uplift and awaken. Mixed by seven-time Grammy® winner Michael Brauer (Coldplay, My Morning Jacket, The Rolling Stones), Mynd Reader’s eponymous debut album captures that spirit.
