way way more than just a northern soul collection, as the set features some killer late 60s soul singles, brought together with a groove that's far wider than simple dancefloor soul - and which features some amazing baroque and sweet soul numbers too! most of the work is from the universal-owned side of the 60s labels scene - chess/cadet, uni, smash, and mgm, but unlike other collections from universal, this one does a great job of avoiding motown work, and instead focuses on some lesser-known gems that fell between the cracks (and the charts) at the time!
