Carbon Tomb arrive with a debut that hits hard: dissonant death metal with raw, visceral energy and a wider expressive range than you usually hear in the style. The songs on Passage to a Neutron Star are structured and coherent, always landing on the right moments.

There is more variety here than expected, too. Without breaking from the core sound, some tracks pull in black metal elements, giving the record extra depth and keeping it engaging from start to finish.

For a first album, the songwriting really stands out. That makes sense given the members’ experience, with one also playing in Dysgnostic and others coming from undisclosed Danish bands. Complex on paper, Passage to a Neutron Star feels fluid, entertaining and memorable in practice.
