Piano Composed

Howard Jones’ third piano-based album is Piano Composed. This collection represents a departure from his first two albums, which were ‘one-off’ improvisations on piano. Encouraged by his friend BT, Howard began composing a piano piece every day. After accumulating about 15-20 pieces, he spent several months during the lockdown period polishing them into ten finished tracks.

These ten pieces are featured on the Piano Composed Ivory vinyl LP format of this release. However, after spending a day with a Spirio piano at Steinway’s showroom in London, Howard was inspired to sell his old Steinway D piano and purchase the Steinway Spirio. This new piano allowed Howard to add octaves or multiple octaves, creating pieces that were physically impossible to play without five or six hands.

The result was an evolution of the original Ivory pieces, which Howard has named Piano Composed Spirio. Therefore, there are two different versions of these compositions available; Piano Composed Ivory on vinyl and the alternatively sequenced Piano Composed Spirio on CD.
